Maddrey, the Chief of Department for the NYPD, Azzarello walked into Collect Pond Park, which is located directly across the street from the courthouse, before he set himself alight. The incident occurred on Thursday, March 9, 2023, as demonstrators gathered outside of the courthouse to protest the trial.
